This is actually the best way to do it. First and foremost, set a goal of "the end". Work toward that goal. If new ideas pop in your head that don't fit that goal, write it down, and work out the details on paper for that idea, but maintain focus on your goal.
My problem is, I will do a set, (for my dio-story) then, after editing and posting, say "Darn, I should have done...". Oh well.
