The Sewer Tunnel
I got a lot of praise for this Shot of my character Riddick in a sewer tunnel from my upcoming dio;
The inspiration started when I read ViolentFX's how to on his sewer scene from his dio "My Brother's Keeper" Shown here; http://www.violentfix.com/cobra/dio-creation/tunnel.htm I followed a lot of the steps he did , but added some of my own; First, I got a 8' tube from a construction site. It was used for rolling carpet for transport, but when they got done, they threw the stuff in the trash, and I'm not too proud to dumpster dive for a great set! I wish I had "before" Pics! But here's what it looks like from outside; I sliced a 2" cut down the side using my new Table saw and then pulled off the strip. I used the cut down the side to spraypaint the inside of the tunnel. I used primer grey (vs ViolentFX's GunMetal gray) because my lights are weaker than the ones violentFX used and I needed the lighter color to make the tunnel brighter! To show you something similar, here is a smaller tube (From Christmas wrap) and I used the same principal; |
Next, I wanted water in my tunnel, but not real water! I ran into "EZ-Water" at a toy train shop and had to try it! It's basically plastic pellets you melt in a pan and can pour into a lake,pond, or waterfall in a RailRoad dio. But I used it for my own evil purpose! I used it for my tunnel!
Look for EZ Water here; http://www.cchobbies.com/scenery/wswater.htm I stold this picture of what it looks like from their website; But since I just generated traffic for their site, I think they'll forgive me! Anyway, I taped up half the tube using duct tape like so; and poured the hot mixture in to cool! ' |
Once it cooled, I got ready to add the lights. Rather than using Christmas lights, I used Floral lights from Michaels. The are smaller and not as bright, but I have always prefered a dark, ominous look to my dios!
I drilled holes through the top and secured the lights with duct tape. Almost exactly as ViolentFX suggested. I didn't understand what he was talking about when he used "Conduit" to cover the slot on the side of his tunnel. I bought 2 - 12' pieces of 1inch diameter PVC pipe and spray painted it black and gray to give it a used appearance. Then I taped it together using duct tape and slid it down the tunnel: It kept falling to the bottom, so using wire and scrap wood, I fixed it in place; Viola! Just turn on the lights inside and poof! Instant tunnel. If you need a side shot, loosen the PVC pipe, pull it out and take the pic...... side shot; CLASS DISMISSED!!! |
due thats awesome believe me i'm gonna use that when i post a pic of firefly climbing through a sewer.

Excellent use of the sewer tunnel! adding the water was a really nice touch! and also I like how you added the lighting I need to try something like this you inspired me to give it a shot! I am getting ready to try a fake water Dio but im going to to use Clear silicone calking im not sure how it will turn out but if it looks good it could be a cheaper alternative for you over the Hobby water stuff. Ill be posting pics soon.
